Nerds Helping Nerds in Times of Need

Make A Plan Launches New Safety Awareness Campaign and Coalition.

Methuen M.A.- Today, Make A Plan launches the first ever awareness campaign sponsored by Operation Hammond. This new community outreach campaign is designed to increase awareness of First Aid and safety at nerd, geek, and pop culture conventions & events in a fun and innovative way.

The campaign aims to increase visibility about the vibrancy and value of First Aid and safety. This public education effort is a response to research that shows that while First Aid and safety concepts are popular, they are often taken for granted. Conventions and events are dynamic, unique places. A simple or comprehensive plan goes a long way towards being prepared for the unexpected.

James Mandeville Fedora, Chairman of Operation Hammond, says, “This new outreach campaign is a key component of our public outreach programs. This is our largest public campaign to date. It’s our hope both attendees and convention planners will join our campaign and coalition.”

Conventions and events can join The Make a Plan Coalition. The coalition is a broad, voluntary coalition within the nerd and pop culture community working to improve First Aid and safety nationwide through education and outreach to key national stakeholders, organizations and decision makers. The venture promotes policies and a culture of safety and First Aid in North America, with special emphasis on those who are disproportionately impacted. Membership is free and there are many benefits.

To help raise more awareness we have purchased www.CosplayIsNotConsent.net to advocate a consent-positive culture. This new site will provide a comprehensive source of info, help, and advocacy for the cosplay and convention community.

A number of tools have been developed to raise awareness of Make a Plan and the importance of First Aid at conventions. Check out the websites www.ConventionFirstAid.orgwww.CosplayIsNotConsent.net, and hashtag #makeaplan to view and share experiences and stories about convention safety, first aid, and various campaign tools (video, website, social media,etc.).
